Your journey begins in Entebbe, Uganda. Highlights here include a boat trip on Lake Victoria visiting Ngamba Island and the chimps. In Jinja, you’ll camp in full view of the impressive Bugagali Falls where you can raft on the White Nile, quad bike through plantations, take a village walk, help with a school community project or simply relax. Visit to local Clinic in Jinja, learn about obstetric fistula a common problem in Uganda.
After crossing the border into Kenya, you’ll meet the traditional Pokot people, take a boat trip on Lake Baringo and experience your first game drive at Lake Nakuru N.P. The soda pan here is home to over 1 million pink flamingoes and a highlight to many. Compare maternity differences in a public and private hospital in Nakuru, talk with Pokot tribe about their birth experiences living so remotely.
Next you enter the famous Masai Mara National Reserve where you’ll get the chance to spot the ‘Big Five’ (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, rhino) before camping in the heart of the Reserve. This is also traditionally the land of the Masai and it’s not uncommon to see the traditional herdsmen, attired in colourful dress and ornate jewellery grazing their stock in the Reserve. You get the chance to learn about this fascinating tribe when you visits a local village. Before travelling through the legendary Rift Valley to Nairobi you’ll visit Lake Naivasha. To view stunning birds and hippos, you’ll cross the Lake to the Crescent Island Game Reserve where you will wander on foot and experience first hand East Africa’s large variety of game. Visit to Naivasha Hospital & Karen Hosptital in Nairobi.
In the hills overlooking Lake Naivasha is Ngondi, the remote village where Karoma’s Mama lives. Here you’ll receive a warm welcome, visit the local school and experience authentic African life.
Heading toward Tanzania, you’ll bush camp at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro before entering into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest extinct volcano, where you can view more game. Meet with local midwife and talk with Masai woman. Learn more about female circumcision.
Returning to Arusha, you travel towards the Tanzanian coast spending time in Lushoto and Bagamoya before reaching Dar es Salaam. Highlights include visting local markets, sunset village walks and history on the slave trade.
From the cobbled Stone Town to the spice plantations and the pristine, palm-fringed coastlines where diving is some of the best in Africa, Zanzibar is a traveller's delight. A few days on this exotic spice island provide contrast and relaxation before you fly out of Dar es Salaam. Visit hospital in Stone Town.
